DAY 1: WELCOME TO ARMENIA

Arrival at Int’l Airport, meeting service with the guide and transfer to the hotel for overnight stay.

DAY 2: CITY TOUR YEREVAN

Breakfast at the hotel and go to Matenadaran

One of the oldest and largest depositories of ancient manuscripts Matenadaran is situated in the northern part of Mashtots Avenue. The world famous and historically important manuscripts, parchments and miniatures are kept here. The building is surrounded by prominent statues of 6 well known Armenian cultural figures. The facade side is ornamented by the statues of Mesrop Mashtots( the creator of Armenian letters) and his pupil Koriun.

  • Tsitsernakaberd

Tsitsernakaberd («Fortress of Swallows») is located on the left bank of the Hrazdan River, in the Eastern part of the city. According to the legend, a temple, dedicated to goddess of love and beauty was located here; herald swallows on the very top of the temple sent massages to her beloved Vahagn: god of strength and war. In 1965, on the 50th anniversary of Armenian Genocide, by the project of architects Tarkhanyan and Kalashyanb, a memorial, dedicated to the victims of Genocide, was constructed on Tsitsernakaberd

DAY 3: YEREVAN –ECHMIADZIN-ZVARTNOC-YEREVAN

After breakfast at the hotel, at the hotel go to Echmiadzin…

Etchmiadzin Cathedral is the mother church of the Armenian Apostolic Church, located in the city of Vagharshapat, Armenia. According to most scholars, it was the first cathedral (but not the first church) built in ancient Armenia, and is considered the oldest cathedral in the world.

From its foundation until the second half of the fifth century, Etchmiadzin was the seat of the Catholicos, the supreme head of the Armenian Church.

Zvartnots Temple is an early medieval architectural monument, built in 643-652 years. Historian Sebeos named the temple Zvartnots. In 1989 it was included in UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage list .

DAY 4: YEREVAN – NORAVAN-ARENI-DJERMUK

One of the important cultural and religious centers of medieval Armenia is Noravank monastery complex, which is located in the region of Vayots Dzor in the valley of the Arpa River gorge and is surrounded by rugged cliffs. The complex consists of the Church of St.. Karapet (1216-1221 gg.), In the northern part – the Church of St. Gregory (1275g.), And a free-standing in the eastern part of the church of St. Mary (1339)., West facade is characterized by its uniqueness : a narrow staircase in the shape of a pyramid, leading to the second floor.

The village of Areni is located approximately 120 kilometers from Yerevan, on the bank of the river Arpa. At the entrance to the village, on the left side – private wine factory called “Areni”.

DAY 5: JERMUK – THE MONASTERY OF TATEV- OLD KHNDZORESK- GORIS

  • The monastery of Tatev

Among the monuments of architecture of Zangezur there is not a monument equal to Tatev monastery. It was founded in the IX century. This is the richest medieval monastic complex in Armenia. Tatev monastery was not only the religious but also political center of Syunik principality. Because of the frequent adverse political situations in the monastery were built numerous hidden storage and moves connecting the monastery with the outside world.

The longest non-stop double track cable car is 5,752 m (18,871 ft) and was achieved by the Tatev Aerial Tramway in collaboration with National Competitiveness Foundation of Armenia, in Tatev, Armenia, on 16 October 2010. The tramway, connects the village of Halizor with the medieval Tatev Monastery, offering a spectacular journey across the Vorotan River Gorge.

  • Old Khndzoresk

Khndzoresk is in Syunik region, 270 km from Yerevan and is definitely a place about which one can say that human beings have taken control over nature and gotten the best of it. The gorge of Khndzoresk with its natural stone pyramids takes imagination away to the ancient times about which the Bible says “and in those times there were giants on Earth”. People lived here from ancient times, digging artificial shelters and lodgings. In Armenian history, the people of Syunik – and particularly those of Khndzoresk – have always been considered to be the most courageous people with an inflexible willpower. The gorge between the two sides is connected together by a long bridge, which was built in 2012 with 160 meters long and 63 meters high.

DAY 6 : GORIS – KARAHUNJ – KHOR VIRAP – YEREVAN

  • Karahunj

Scientific studies have shown that Karahunj is the oldest observatory in the world. He belongs to the second millennium BC . Situated with amazing accuracy ,the huge stones have special holes that were used to study the stars. Found near Karahunj petroglyphs (rock carvings), indicate that primitive man in Armenia had very specific information about astronomy.

  • Khor Virap

The 17th century monastery-fort of Khor Virap is located in the Ararat district, in the surroundings of the Pokr Vedi village, on top of a hill. It was known as the pilgrimage place for Grigor the Еnlightener. In ancient times this is the place where the historical Artashat city was located. Up unil the monastery-fort was built, this section was used as a royal prison. Khor Virap (The Deep Pit) was where the prisoners were tossed, and which was full of poisonous snakes and insects. According to Aghatangelos and other historians, Grigor the Еnlightener was tortured in Khor Virap. In or about 642 the Catholicos Nerses III ascended to a chapel in there. The chapel with its composition and construcion principles reminds us of Zvartnots. A new chapel was built in 1662 on its ruins, which is still preserved today.

DAY 7 : YEREVAN – GARNI- GEGHARD-YEREVAN

Garni pagan temple, a unique monument, dating to the Hellenistic era, which remained in the territory of Armenia. It is located at a distance of 28 kilometers from Yerevan, in the picturesque gorge of the river Azat.

The famous monastery of Geghard is located in Kotayk region , 9 km from the Garni. The monastery complex was built in 12-13 centuries. Initially, it was called Ayrivank (Cave Monastery), but later it was renamed Geghard (spear), which, according to legend, the Roman legionary pierced Christ. The complex consists of the main church of Catholics, the porch, carved into the rock two churches, chapels, and the church of St. Mary, which is considered the oldest monument complex.
